Jeffrey Burns, MD is the director of the Alzheimer and Memory Program and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He also serves as the assistant director of the General Clinical Research Center.
Biographical Sketch
A native Kansan, Dr. Burns graduated from the University of Notre Dame and attended medical school at the University of Kansas. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Virginia. Dr. Burns completed a two year post doctoral fellowship in geriatric neurology and Alzheimer’s disease at the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, under John Morris, M.D. Dr. Burns is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His memberships include the American Association of Neurology, The American Geriatric Society, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. He was the Elected Chairman of the Vas-Cog Society Student Executive Committee and on the society’s Executive Committee in 2005. Dr. Burns’ honors include memberships in Alpha Epsilon Delta and Alpha Omega Alpha. He received the 2007 Early Achievement in Medicine Award from the KU Endowment Association. His publications include numerous scholarly articles and two books on dementia.
Research Summary
Dr. Burns serves as the Director of the Alzheimer and Memory Program. Dr. Burns’ research focus is brain aging and factors influencing the aging process and the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Burns’ interest also includes the study and identification of novel neuroimaging markers of early or preclinical Alzheimer’s disease.
