Change in human subjects research process

The KUMC Human Research Protection Program will be implementing a new web-based submission process that will affect anyone who conducts or approves human subjects research. Training on this new process will be offered. Read more.

HealthQuest discount deadline July 31: Time is running out to qualify for a premium incentive discount for 2014. You must complete the health assessment questionnaire (worth 10 credits) and earning an additional 20 credits (for a total of 30 credits) by July 31, 2013, to qualify for a $480 premium incentive discount for plan year 2014. Kirmayer Fitness facility enhancements: Kirmayer is currently undergoing a facelift to better meet the needs of its members and promote a more inviting environment. The membership structure is also getting a makeover, effective July 1. Read more.

PeopleSoft training suspended: To ensure that everyone is properly trained on how to use the KU Market Center, the regular PeopleSoft training in September and October will be suspended and will resume in November. Read more.

Wichita recruits providers for small towns: With the assistance of the Kansas Recruitment and Retention Center, two health care providers will be joining a health care team in Kansas. Read more.

Team KU shines in track event: Team KU finished the competitive track events with several of our employees earning medals and points. Read more.

Year-end cleaning: This is the time of year when employees do some year-end spring cleaning. While you are cleaning out your files and offices, remember to place any sensitive papers, like network diagrams, IP addresses, usernames, etc., in the shred boxes and not in a dumpster or trash.

Daniel Swagerty, M.D., MPH, associate chair for geriatrics and palliative care, Department of Family Medicine, and associate director for education, Landon Center on Aging, has received a $1 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Read more.

Carol Fabian, M.D., professor and director of the Breast Cancer Prevention Unit, was recently honored for her leadership with the Pearl Award from the Girl Scouts. Read more.

In response to a recent EVC newsletter, an employee submitted a question asking: "I have heard that KU Endowment has more than $4 billion sitting in reserves. Why can't the money shortage be allocated from the endowment fund?" Read the answer. 

IN MEMORY

Gerald Kerby, a professor in the Department of Medicine and Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and faculty member for 48 years, died on June 12.
