The faculty members of the Department of Neurosurgery are dedicated to providing the highest level of medical care for people with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system and their supporting structures, and top tier neurosurgical education. Together with the award-winning University of Kansas Hospital, we aim to be not only the best providers of neurosurgical care in the Kansas City metro area, but among the best in the nation.
With the largest neurosurgical group in the Kansas City area, our 7 superbly-trained practitioners are specialists in the latest techniques in minimally invasive brain and spinal surgery, complex aneurysm and AVM treatment, skull base surgery, epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, and brain tumor excision.
In over 25 years of experience, our fellowship-trained practitioners in the neurosurgery of complex vascular diseases of the brain have successfully treated hundreds of patients with brain aneurysms using the latest microsurgical and interventional techniques. The neurosurgeons at the University of Kansas have the most extensive experience in the area with complex cerebral bypass procedures, having performed over 200 bypasses for Moyamoya disease and other indications.
With over 1000 DBS surgeries alone in the last 5 years, KU neurosurgeons are recognized leaders and pioneers in the use of deep brain stimulation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and tremor. Our neurosurgeons have consistently provided quality care for hundreds of patients with movement disorders since the 1980's, with outcomes and quality far above the national average.
In our multidisciplinary Spine Center, we treat both complicated and straightforward spinal conditions, together with a superb team of specialists from orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, and pain management. Professional, collegiate, and high school sports teams have sought our judgment and treatment in the care of concussions in their athletes.
We are proud to be an integral part of the team that US News and World Report recently ranked #22 in the country among Neurology and Neurosurgery programs. We will continue strive to provide only the highest quality care for our patients, and the highest quality neurosurgical education.
